Myself and my colleagues, Ian McDonald and Louise Buckingham, have recently returned from a week of running copyright seminars in Adelaide.
We ran several sessions for educators (see
www.copyright.org.au/training) which were lively, interactive sessions where we dealt with the latest copyright issues affecting educational institutions. It is always interesting for us to hear about new teaching methods and to explore the copyright issues which arise from using these new technologies.
During the Adelaide seminars, there were many questions from educators regarding the use of Learning Management Systems, such as Clickview and Clickview Exchange. Generally, how you can use these systems depends on the type of material you are putting into them. Remember to check the terms and conditions of any purchase agreement as you may be bound to certain uses under contract.
For the copyright implications of transferring TV programs, DVDs, videos, audiobooks and text onto Learning Management Systems, see
www.copyright.org.au/information/wp0034
We understand that ClickView-Live and the Digital Video Commander system are marketed as systems that stream directly from devices such as DVDs, hence seeming to avoid some of the copyright problems surrounding the copying of DVDs. For more information, see
